There are two common ways of restoring system files in windows xp, by using system restore or using the system file checker utility (sfc).
To start restoring the system files, follow the steps below.
1. Insert the windows xp installation cd to your cd/dvd drive.
2. Open command prompt (click run, type cmd and click ok).
3. In the command prompt type sfc /scannow, it will then ask to insert the windows installation cd, click ok.
4. The system file checker utility will then start scanning for system files and start restoring them to xp's stock system files extracted from the windows installation cd.
5. When the restoration is done, restart your computer.
